This is only an introductory guide to becoming a chef; there's more to learn and some of that is specific to your location, your experience and your qualifications. Start by doing some more research to further define what you want to do and how best to do it. Take in to account where you are in the world, what sort of a job you're interested in and in what sort of establishment.
Look for catering courses in your area (local colleges, nation institutions, etc) :
• Research available catering courses
• Find out about tuition costs, etc
• Check out any financial assistance that may be available
• Think about the practicalities like living and transport costs
• Don't forget the equipment, etc you'll need to buy
• Try to find a course with good links in commercial establishments (placements, etc)
• Keep in mind the opportunities you'll have when you've qualified
You should always be learning new things, not just in formal training or practical experience but in your daily life. Take time to learn about wines, cheeses and spices. Read food magazines, wine magazines and cookbooks. Keep yourself informed about new trends in food, entertainment and business. Be up-to-date, be interested and be keen.
Good luck in your career as a great chef!
